Safeguarding
Safeguarding at Christ Church CE Primary School
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment as we believe safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
If you do have any concerns regarding the safeguarding of any of our pupils, please contact one of our designated safeguarding leads. Mrs Uttley, the Headteacher is our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Behaviour Policy and Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy . Please see our policies page.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
Oldham Safeguarding Children Partnership
A core function of OSCP is developing policies and procedures for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We have adopted the Greater Manchester Safeguarding Children procedures.

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information sharing partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support for children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. Information is shared by the police with a school's trained Key Adult (DSL) prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident thus enabling appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.
Children experiencing domestic abuse are negatively impacted by this exposure; domestic abuse has been identified as an Adverse Childhood Experience and can lead to emotional, physical and psychological harm. Operation Encompass aims to mitigate this harm by enabling immediate support, making a child's day better and giving them a better tomorrow.
Operation Encompass believes that children are victims of domestic abuse in their own right and should be acknowledged as such.
Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)
The Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) is Oldham’s first point of contact for:
- safeguarding referrals to protect children, young people or adults from harm, abuse or neglect; and
- care and support services which help individuals or families to meet their long-term needs, access the Early Help Service and mental health support, prevent or delay needs becoming more serious, lead independent lives and reduce dependence on public services.
A range of organisations make up the MASH including:
- Social services for children and adults
- Greater Manchester Police
- Early Help
- Education and Early Years
- Pennine Care and Bridgewater NHS Trusts
- Healthy Young Minds Oldham
- Positive Steps
- National Probation Service
- Greater Manchester & Cheshire Community Rehabilitation Company
Where there is a concern, these organisations share information to decide the most appropriate intervention to prevent harm to the person. This gives a full understanding of the situation so we are able to respond quickly and effectively.
The MASH can also:
- Help with caring for someone or enabling them to live at home, or
- Support with problems such as housing, finance, family relationships, giving up smoking or weight management.
If you suspect a person is at immediate risk of harm call 999 and speak to the Police.
You can contact the MASH from 8:40am – 5:00pm on Monday – Friday.
